Blugolds Compete Against Pipers In Season Opener

ST. PAUL, Minn. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team started their season on Thursday. The Blugolds traveled to St. Paul, MN to take on Hamline University in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual. Eau Claire would edge out the Pipers in the bars but would eventually lose the team total 177.675-174.625.

Results

Despite the loss, the Blugolds showed some promise in their first meet. Tia Ravara (Fr. - San Leandro, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) individually took the top scores in three of the four events. Ravara scored a 9.200 on the bars, a 9.525 on the beam, and a 9.250 in her floor exercise. She would be the only competitor to register an All-Around total (37.175).

Other Blugolds scoring big were Lilianna Shank (So. - Elkhart, IN/Concord) and Christina Leikam (So. - Aurora, CO/Cherokee Trail) Shank posted a second place score of 9.025 and Leikam earned a 8.975 for third place, both on the bars.

The Blugolds will head back on the road on Thursday, March 11th when they travel to UW-Oshkosh. Events are scheduled to begin at 5PM.
