Women's Gymnastics Takes Third at University of Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – Accumulating the second highest team score in program history, the UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team finished in third place competing at NCAA Division I University of Illinois this afternoon.

Results

The Blugolds finished with a score of 185.975, just shy of the school record of 186.650, achieved last season at the NCGA Championship. The University of Illinois won the meet with 196.175 points while Centenary College (La.), a team transitioning from Division I to Division III, took second with a score of 186.650.

Elizabeth Stubbs (So.-Wayzata, Minn.) had the highest finish of the day for Eau Claire as she came in sixth place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.750.

Michaela McCamey-Metropulos (Sr.-Dayton, Ohio) led the Blugolds on the balance beam as she took seventh with a score of 9.700, a career-best and the sixth highest score in school history.

On the uneven bars, Kellie Dougherty (So.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) had the best finish for Eau Claire, taking ninth with a career-high 9.600 points, which was also the second best score in school history.

Julia Stedman (So.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) led Eau Claire on the vault with a score of 9.400, finishing in 11th place.

Next Friday, the Blugolds will be home to face Hamline University (Minn.) for Alumni Night. Action will get underway at 6 p.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
