Blugold Gymnasts Finish Second at Home Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – While the UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team trailed after three rotations, a strong performance in the floor exercise allowed the Blugolds to finish in second place out of three teams at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational in the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

The Blugolds finished the floor exercise with a score of 47.100, the highest score of the day in any event. They finished with 183.900 points, the 10th highest total in school history, while Winona State University (Minn.) won with a score of 184.425. UW-Whitewater, the defending national champion, took third with 182.950 points.

Elizabeth Stubbs (So.-Wayzata, Minn.) led the Blugolds in the floor exercise with a score of 9.700 as Eau Claire took four of the top five spots.

Leah Robinette (So.-Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) also won an event, finishing with a score of 9.425 on the uneven bars, a career-high and tied for the eighth best score in school history.

The top Blugold on the balance beam was Olivia Aschenbrenner (Sr.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton), who tied for third with a score of 9.400, while Sarah Engstrom (Fr.-Batesville, Ind.) and Julia Stedman (So.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) tied for eighth on the vault with scores of 9.275 to lead Eau Claire.

The Blugolds will be at the University of Illinois next Saturday to face the Fighting Illini and Centenary College (La.) in a meet beginning at 4 p.m.
