Women's Golf Ties for Seventh at IWU Spring Fling

NORMAL, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – Competing in its first tournament of the spring, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team tied for seventh place out of 16 teams at the 2013 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course following two days of competition.

The Blugolds shot 353 yesterday but improved today and shot 338 to jump from 11th place to seventh. They tied the University of St. Francis (Ill.) with a total of 691 strokes. DePauw University (Ind.) won the tournament with 619 strokes.

Two Blugolds completed the event tied for ninth or better.

Catherine Wagner (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) led the Blugolds as she took fourth place with 155 strokes (+11). She finished with 78 on day one and 77 on day two.

Kate Engler (So.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) tied for ninth with three others who shot 161. Engler shot 82 on the first day but improved to shoot 79 on day two.

DePauw's Kelsey Smith took home medalist honors with 149 strokes.

Next Saturday and Sunday, the Blugolds will compete at the Warburg College Spring Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa.
