Women's Golf Takes Fourth at SMSU Mustang Invite

MARSHALL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team finished in fourth place out of 17 teams after two rounds at the 2012 Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang Invitational at Marshall Golf Club today.

The three teams finishing higher than Eau Claire were all NCAA Division II institutions. Augustana (S.D) won the tournament with 624 strokes while Concordia-St. Paul was second with 646 and Minnesota State was third with 648. Eau Claire had 656 strokes.

Kate Engler (So.-Beloit, Wis./F.J. Turner) led the Blugolds as she came in fourth place with 155 strokes. Augustana's Emily Kvidera took home medalist honors with 146 strokes in the 114-golfer field.

Two other Blugolds finished in the top 20. Catherine Wagner (Sr.-Austin, Minn.) tied for 15th place with 162 strokes while Emily Stone (So.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot 163 to tie for 18th.

The Blugolds will have next weekend off and will prepare for the 2012 WIAC Championship, which will be contested Oct. 5-7 at Bull's Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids. The Blugolds have won the past three WIAC Championships and have a total of eight conference titles.
