Men’s Cross Country wins City Wells 5k; Elmer takes individual title

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team won their fourth annual running of the City Wells 5k. In a dual against nearby UW-Stout, the Blugolds displayed their team's depth. The Blugolds scored 22 points to the Blue Devils'  34.

Finishing first overall was Wyatt Elmer (Sr. – Mankato, MN/Loyola). Elmer maintained control of the race for nearly the entire duration, completing the 5000m course in 16:06.

Not far behind was a steady stream of young Blugolds including Adam Phillips (So. – Lodi, WI/Lodi), Jackson Clements (Fr. – Onalaska, WI/Onalaska), Clay Quiring (Webster, MN/Northfield), and Harrison Redepenning (So. – Anoka, MN/Anoka).

The four runners finished 3rd (16:23), 5th (16:32), 6th (16:40), and 7th (16:40), respectively.

In what's considered the final invitational meet of the season, the Blugold runners are prepared to take on the championship season. The top 12 runners will compete in the WIAC Championship meet on Saturday, October 28 at UW-Whitewater; the Blugolds have won the WIAC title the past three seasons. The rest of the team will continue training for the Saga Cup Cross Country Challenge on Friday, November 3 at Luther College.
