Men's Outdoor Track & Field Finishes Third at Phil Esten Challenge

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The 11th-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's outdoor track & field team finished in third place out of 10 teams at UW-La Crosse's Phil Esten Challenge today.

The Blugolds finished with 130.50 points while La Crosse won with 222. UW-Oshkosh was second with 170.50.

Eau Claire finished first in four events.

In the discus throw, Tyler Genovese (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) won with a mark of 51.23 meters (168-01).

Joe Martschinke (So.-Waukesha, Wis./West) took first place with a time of 1:55.12 in the 800-meter run. He narrowly edged the second place finisher from River Falls, who finished with a time of 1:55.13.

In the 400-meter dash, Thurgood Dennis (Fr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) finished first with a time of 48.42 seconds.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Blugolds won with a time of 3:15.70, more than four seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Next weekend the Blugolds will compete at three different meets, the Drake Relays, the Gina Relays and at Saint Mary's University Open.
