Men's Track and Field Announces 2011 Award Winners

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's track and field head coach Chip Schneider recently revealed the winners of the 2011 team awards.

Thomas Breitbach won the Most Valuable Player award. Breitbach won the indoor conference title in the 5,000-meter run and placed eighth at the NCAA indoor national championship. Breitbach shattered two outdoor school records in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races and earned two runner-up titles at nationals.

Freshman Jacob Dennis-Oehling earned the Newcomer award. Dennis-Oehling was a part of the indoor distance medley relay team that set a new school record. He finished fifth in the outdoor WIAC championships in the 400-meter dash. The Winona State Invitational was one of his strongest meets, as he won the 400-meter dash and took second in the 200-meter dash.

Patrick Keyes picked up the Captain award. Keyes competed in a multitude of indoor and outdoor events, including the high and long jumps, shot put, discus, decathlon and pentathlon, 55 and 110-meter hurdles, and the 200 and 400-meter dashes. In the indoor 55-meter hurdles, Keyes won two events, finished second an additional three times and picked up a fourth at the WIAC championship.
