NCAA Announces Men's Indoor Track & Field Qualifiers

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Blugolds.com) - Eight UW-Eau Claire men's indoor track & field members have been selected to compete at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, NCAA officials announced Sunday night.

The championships will be contested March 11-12 at the Capital Center Fieldhouse in Bexley, Ohio. The event is hosted by Capital University.

Eau Claire will compete in five different events over the two-day period.

In the field, Tony Sigrist (Jr.-Byron, Minn.) will participate in the weight throw for the second year in a row.

Bart Mestelle (Jr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) was selected to compete in the pentathlon.

On the track, the following Blugolds will compete at the championships:

Patrick Keyes (Sr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) – 55-meter hurdles

Tom Breitbach (Jr.-Muskego, Wis.) – 5,000-meter run

The Blugolds also earned a spot in the distance medley relay. Earning a spot to compete in the relay were Alex Adkinson (So.-Whitewater, Wis.), Patrick Mackin (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy), Aaron Easker (So.-Eland, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood ) and Jake Zander (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell).

Eau Claire has a larger contingent at nationals this season compared to last year. In 2010, Sigrist and a DMR team were the only ones representing the Blugolds.
