Track & Field Teams Honored with USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire track and field teams were honored recently with U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Academic honors, the association announced.

Both the men's and women's teams were named All-Academic Teams. The women were one of 111 teams to earn the award after finishing with a 3.46 GPA. The men were among 64 teams honored.

In addition to the team awards, 19 individuals were named All-Academic honorees, four more than a season ago.

The men finished with eight selections while the women had 11. With eight men selected, the Blugolds had the second-highest total of any team in the country while the women had the third-best total.

Joe Lilek (Jr.-Tomahawk, Wis.)
Bart Mestelle (Jr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.)
Marty Richardson (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./Kimberly)
Andrew Storsveen (Sr.-Winona, Minn.)
Jake Zander (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell).

Julia Baranek (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.)
Talisa Emberts (Jr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton)
Brittany Frederick (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble)
Chelsea Heil (Jr.-Whitewater, Wis.)
Ashlyn Mauer (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.)
Kim Miresse (Jr.-Waukesha, Wis./North)
Maria Peloquin (Sr.-Prescott, Wis.)

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark in an individual or relay event at some point in either indoor or outdoor seasons. Participation in an NCAA Championship also fulfills the athletic component of All-Academic qualification.
