Men's Tennis Splits against Minnesota Teams

ST. PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team split wins in Minnesota, opening the day with a 7-2 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) before bouncing back with a 9-0 win over Hamline University (Minn.) at the Swanson Tennis Center at Gustavus Adolphus today.

Against Gustavus, Will Weyenberg (Fr.-Neenah, Wis.) secured the Blugolds' lone singles victory, coming from behind in a close match to beat Sam Hjelm 6-7, 7-5, 10-6 in the No. 6 spot. The No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Vande Linde (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Joe Meier (Sr.-Hutchinson, Minn.) also picked up an 8-5 victory.

Facing Hamline, the Blugolds had little trouble sweeping the Pipers.

Meier lost the fewest games in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 against Derek Lutz.

Nathan Tretsven (So.-North St. Paul, Minn.) and Luke Zwiener (Fr.-St. Cloud, Minn.) had the best result in the doubles competition as the pair won 8-0 in the No. 3 spot.

Eau Claire is now 2-3 on the season.

Next weekend the Blugolds will be home to face three opponents. They will take on St. Norbert College at 6 p.m. Friday and will play Loras College (Iowa) at 9 a.m. Saturday followed by a contest against Milwaukee School of Engineering at 3 p.m.
