Men's Tennis Falls to No. 1 Case Western Reserve

LAKE BLUFF, Ill. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team was back in action on Friday afternoon as they faced off with the No. 1 ranked Case Western Reserve Spartans. The Blugolds battled through every match with tough competition on the opposite side of the court as they fell 9-0 to the Spartans.

UW-Eau Claire kept things tight in doubles play as Hunter Roseth (Sr. – Lakeville, Minn./South) and Kole Kolinski (Sr. – Kewaunee, Wis./Ashwaubenon) took six of the fourteen sets in first doubles flight. John Foley (Sr. – Wayzata, Minn.) and Demetri Bush (Sr. – Edina, Minn./Duluth Marshall) fought hard at doubles No. 2 with four set wins against the top ranked singles player in the Region, James Hopper (CWRU). Ethan Wurtzel (Jr. – Menomonie, Wis.) and Colin Chapman (So. – Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) also won four sets in the third doubles flight. Despite dropping all the double matches, UWEC went into singles play with some confidence as they kept battling with the top ranked team in the nation.

In singles play, RJ Griffiths (Jr. - Rogers, Minn.) found the only game victory for the Blugolds in his tiebreaker defeat at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 8-10. Kole Kolinski fought till the end at No. 4 singles despite dropping the contest 3-6, 6-7.

The Blugolds will be back on the road next Friday, April 14th when they travel to UW-Whitewater for New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. Matches are set to begin at 3PM at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex.
