EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell to the No. 11 Augsburg College Auggies 5-1 at Hobbs Ice Arena on Friday night.
After splitting two games over in New York in the 2017 Pathfinder Tournament, the Blugolds looked a step behind the Auggies in the entirety of this one.
A check from behind on Blugolds' forward Patrick Moore (Sr. – Grand Rapids, MN) early in the first period gave UW-Eau Claire a critical five-minute man advantage to work with. The Auggies killed off the entire five minute major with active sticks and active bodies to swing the momentum their way.
UW-Eau Claire was unable to get anything going in the final period as they would fall by a score of 5-1 for only their third loss of the season. The Blugolds are now 0-2 against the Auggies this season scoring just two goals total.
Deo played only the first two periods of this game giving up a season-high five goals on 13 shots on goal.
Goaltender David Johnson (Fr. - Bloomington, MN) saw his first action of his Blugold career playing the entire final period saving all of the 10 shots he saw.
The Blugolds (11-3-3) will look to rebound against another strong opponent tomorrow night at Hobbs Ice Arena taking in the St. Thomas Tommies (8-4-3). The puck will drop at 7 p.m.
