No. 14 Men's Hockey defeats Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team earned their second-consecutive win to improve to 4-1-2 on the season with a 5-2 win over the Concordia University Falcons on Friday night at Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Blugolds began a two-game road stint with their first game of the weekend resulting in a big 5-2 win behind a strong three-point night from Colton Wolter (Jr. – Fairbanks, AK).

The Falcons would strike first in this one as they took a 1-0 with 5:46 left in the first period on a goal from Jared Pilet.

The Blugolds avoided a 1-0 deficit heading into the first intermission thanks to a goal scored by Joe Nathe (Fr. – Fergus Falls, MN) with just 54 seconds left in the frame. Wolter and Lucas Kohls (Jr. – Forest Lake, MN) got the assists on Nathe's first goal as a Blugold.

UW-Eau Claire led in shots on goal 13-12 after one period of play.

The Blugolds blew the game wide open in the second period with three goals scored by Colton Wolter, Jacob Wolter (Jr. - Fairfanks, AK) and Patrick Moore (Sr. Grand Rapids, MN) to give them the 4-1 lead heading into the final period.

Two of the three goals came on the power play as the Blugolds would take advantage of two of their three power-play opportunities in the period.

The Blugolds would add a fifth goal in the final period on a goal from Kyle Lee (Jr. – Wausau, WI) assisted by Moore.

The Falcons would add a late third-period goal from Brody Decker to add one more goal to their total before falling 5-2 in a game that featured 18 total penalties.

UW-Eau Claire would finish 2-8 on the power play to head to 28.1 percent on the year with the man advantage while killing off all six of the Falcon power plays to improve to 91.7 percent on the kill.

Goaltender Jay Deo (Sr. - Langley, British Columbia) continued to mind the net for the Blugolds saving 27 of the 29 shots he faced in the win to improve to 4-1-2 on the season.

The Blugolds (4-1-2) will look to keep rolling as they travel to Illinois to take on Lake Forest College tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
