Blugolds Fall to #22 Falcons on the Road

RIVER FALLS, WI (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team was back on the road Saturday as they traveled West to take on the No. 22 ranked UW-River Falls Falcons. Despite tallying 232 total offensive yards, the Blugolds fell to the Falcons, 63-6.

UW-Eau Claire found themselves behind early after UW-River Falls converted on their first six offensive drives. An answer by the defense came in the second quarter as Ryan Porebski (Fr. – Chicago, IL/Taft) grabbed his first collegiate interception and returned it 22-yards to break up the Falcon scoring chance.

On the ensuing drive, Eau Claire found their only tally of the day as Harry Roubidoux (Jr. – Winneconne, WI) hit Isaac Garside (So. – Bonduel, WI) down the middle for a 49-yard touchdown reception. Roubidoux's passing touchdown records as his 13th passing touchdown and Garside's fourth receiving touchdown of the year.

After halftime, the Blugolds stepped up their defense and forced three punts, one interception and one turnover on downs. With a 4th and 3 from the UWEC 5-yard line, Jake Cochnauer (So. – Farmington, MN) picked off the Falcon quarterback in the end zone for his first career interception and second takeaway of the year.

With only one touchdown surrendered in the third quarter, UW-Eau Claire kept UWRF off the board in the fourth for a final score of 63-6.

Leaders on the day for Eau Claire included Isaac Garside with 89 receiving yards and a career high 209 all-purpose yards. Ryan Kuechle (Jr. – Mankato, MN/East) led the defense with 12 total tackles and one pass break up. Ryan Porebski and Ian Tandy (So. – Lake Elmo, MN/Stillwater) had six total tackles each.

The Blugolds (1-6, WIAC 0-4) will return home for another Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match up on Saturday, October 29th when they host UW-Stevens Point. Kickoff from Carson Park is scheduled for 1:10PM.
