Senczyszyn and Drexler Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's wrestler Jake Drexler (Stratford, Wis.) and women's swimmer Sam Senczyszyn (Grafton,Wis.) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Senczyszyn won the 50-yard freestyle tying her school record and producing a NCAA invite time with a 23.11. She also took first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA invite time of 1:01.18 and won the 100-yard freestyle with a NCAA invite time of 50.30. In all three events, Senczyszyn is currently second in the nation.

Drexler won the 141-pound bracket at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Dec. 1. He earned the top spot on the podium after recording three falls (4:19, 1:40, 0:51) and a 12-1 major decision to finish the day 4-0. Drexler defeated Nick Sablan of Millikin University (Ill.) in his first match by fall (4:19), Zak Nelson of UW-Oshkosh in the second round by fall (1:40) and Tristan Clark of Central College (Iowa) by fall (:51) in the quarterfinal. He went on to win his bracket with a major decision win over Dan Radcliffe of Central College.

The swim and dive teams will not compete again until January 18, while the wrestling team will host UW-Whitewater in Zorn Arena tomorrow, December 5. at 7:00pm. Follow all the Blugold action on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app on your mobile device.
