Gymnastics narrowly falls to Warhawks

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team came up just short in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match-up with UW-Whitewater, 189.300-186.475.

Results

Becca Wilcox (Jr. – Roseville, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) and Tori Erickson (Jr. – Woodbury, MN) lead the Blugolds on the vault as they tied with Whitewater's Chloe Rehberg for fourth place with a score of 9.525.

The Blugolds also took fourth on the uneven parallel bars as Megan Fayler (Fr. – Afton, MN/Stillwater) recorded a score of 9.550.

Erickson placed second on the balance beam thanks to a personal best of 9.650 while Lauren Zurowski (Sr. – Greenfield, WI/Whitnall) also finished second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.575. Erin Olson (Sr. - Faribault, MN/Shattuck-St. Mary's) followed with a 9.500 to tie with Warhawk Lewa Evans for third place.

In the all-around results, Erickson was third with a score of 36.875. In addition, two other Blugolds hit personal bests on the night. Kiya Bjorge (So. Kennewick, WA/Southridge) scored a 9.450 on the vault while Lauralynn Anderson (So. – West Bend, WI/home school) scored a 9.225 on the uneven parallel bars.

The Blugolds will be back in action Friday, February 3 as they travel to Hamline University. The meet is set for 6:30 p.m.
