Women's Cross Country Takes Third at WIAC Championship

ETTRICK, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Behind four top-20 finishes, the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team came in third place at the 2014 WIAC Championship at Ettrick Golf Club today.

UW-La Crosse won its second straight WIAC title after scoring 32 points, which matched last year's total. UW-Oshkosh took second with 72 points while UW-Eau Claire was third with 73.

Leading the Blugolds was Lucy Ramquist (Jr.-River Falls, Wis.), who came in fifth place with a time of 22:24.27.

Kelsey Jaeger (So.-Waukesha, Wis./West) came in next with a time of 22:41.99, taking 11th place. In 16th place with a time of 22:58.69 was Sydney Pretasky (So.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) while Melody Becker (So.-Osseo, Wis.) came in 20th place with a time of 23:06.21.

Rounding out the scorers for Eau Claire was Clara Williamson (Jr.-Skokie, Ill./Niles North), who took 21st place with a time of 23:08.34.

The winner, Laura Mead from UW-La Crosse, finished with a time of 21:59.35.

At the conclusion of the championship, Gretchen Berg (So.-Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Next Friday the Blugolds will compete in the JV Cup at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The following Saturday (Nov. 15), the Blugolds will be at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, hosted by UW-Oshkosh.
