Women’s Track has Strong Showing at St. Mary’s Open

WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team took home 10 top-five finishes as the Blugolds competed at the St. Mary's Open held today at the St. Mary's Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Marina Eggen (Jr.-Greenville, WI/Hortonville) earned a first place finish in the long jump with a top leap of 17-9 (5.41 meters).  Eggen also placed sixth in the 200-meter sprint with a time of 26.51 seconds.

Kim Drewiske (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) advanced to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles where she earned a second place finish with a time of 14.96 seconds.

Kayla Kelsey (Sr.-Sparta, WI) advanced to the finals of the 100-meter sprint where she finished third clocking in at 12.68 seconds.  Kelsey also finished fourth in the 200-meter sprint completing the race in 26.14 seconds.

Calla Karl (Sr.-Frederic, WI) earned a fourth place finish in the 400-meter sprint with a time of 1:01.00.  Ashleigh Buergi (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) finished right behind Karl in the 400 posting a time of 1:01.10

In the middle distance races Brianna Nelson (Fr.-Jefferson, WI) placed third in the 1,500-meter run completing the race in 4:56.85.  Taylor Domro (Fr.-Kimberly, WI) finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.06.

In the field events Julia Stedman (Jr.-Maplewood, MN/North St. Paul) took second place in the triple jump covering 36-3 (11.05 meters).  Sam Anderson (Jr.-Forest Lake, MN) earned fifth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 164-9 (50.22 meters).

Next the Blugolds will travel to UW-La Crosse to compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will run from May 1-2.
