Alex Card Leads Blugolds on Day Three of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Blugolds.com) – Alex Card (So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) led the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming & diving teams on day three of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium today.

Card finished in ninth place in the 100-yard breaststroke to claim All-American honorable mention recognition. His time of 56.07 seconds broke his own school record of 56.12, which he set at this year's WIAC Championship. Card is the first Blugold men's swimmer to earn All-American honors since 2002.

Also for the men, Nick Badilla (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) finished 17th in the one-meter dive as he scored 393.90 points.

For the women, Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) competed in the 200-yard butterfly. In preliminaries, she tied for 16th place which prompted a swim-off. In the swim-off, she fell to Keelin Nave of Wellesley and did not advance to the consolation finals. Dorvinen finished in 17th place overall with a time of 2:06.38.

In team standings, the Blugold women are tied for 30th place with 14 points while the men are tied for 37th with nine points.

Tomorrow is the final day of the championships and the Blugolds will compete in four events (one men's, three women's). Action gets underway at 10 a.m. Eastern.
