Dorvinen Leads Blugolds on Day Two of Swimming & Diving Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire women's swimmer Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) finished as an All-American to lead the Blugolds on the second day of the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium today.

Dorvinen broke her own school record in the 400-yard individual medley twice as she finished as a first team All-American in the event for the second time in her career (also took fifth last season). In preliminaries Thursday morning, she completed the event in 4:25.85, breaking the school record of 4:26.85 which she set on Feb. 18, 2011. In the finals, she finished with a time of 4:24.52 to take fifth.

The Blugolds also competed in two relays on Thursday but neither advanced to the finals. The 400-yard medley relay team of Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East), Dorvinen, Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) and Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) finished in 20th place with a time of 4:02.10. The 200-yard freestyle relay team was disqualified.

The Blugold women are currently in 24th place at the championships with 14 points, all of which came from Dorvinen's fifth-place finish.

Friday the Blugolds will compete in three more events on the third day of the championships.
