OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming & diving team picked up a solid 159-83 win this afternoon over UW-Oshkosh.
The Blugolds won nine total events, including sweeping the top-five spots in the 500-freestyle event. Spencer Rose (So.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) completed the race in just 5:03.26 to win the event.
Rose was one of the four-member team that won the 400-yard medley relay. Rose, Corey Groshens (Jr.-St. Louis Park/Minn./Hopkins), Alex Plaetzer (Sr.- Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) and Alex Card (So.- Prior Lake, Minn.) completed the race in just 3:43.70 for first.
The other relay quartet also won the 400-yard freestyle. Ben Epperly (So.- Schaumburg, Ill.), Jacob Gramling (Sr.- Brookfield, Wis./East), Jake McDade (Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) and Aaron Lickel (So.-Madison, Wis./East) earned the victory with a time of just 3:23.29.
McDade and Groshens each won two individual events. McDade won both the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke races. He won the 200 with a time of 2:04.60 and the freestyle race with a time of 17:26.25. Groshens tallied his two victories in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley.
Eau Claire also earned victories in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Lickel won the 50-yard race with a time of 27.79, while Card's 50.31 effort was good enough for first in the 100-yard event.
Nick Badilla (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) represented the Blugolds in the diving competitions. He earned two runner-up finishes in both the one and three-meter dives with respective scores of 289.50 and 325.20.
The Blugolds will compete this Friday against UW-River Falls. Competition for the event is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
