Swimming & Diving Teams Compete in Day One of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in four events at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium today.

Alex Card (So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) kicked off the day for Eau Claire by swimming in the 200-yard individual medley preliminaries. He finished tied for 34th place out of 46 swimmers with a time of 1:54.34.

Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) competed in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries and tied for 38th place out of 44 with a time of 24.16 seconds.

The Blugolds also competed in the 200-yard medley relay preliminaries. The group of Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East), Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), Olson and Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) finished with a time of 1:50.07 in 26th place.

In diving, Nick Badilla (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) finished in 18th place with 408.50 points in the three-meter event. He will compete in the one-meter dive Friday.

Thursday the Blugolds will be in action for the second day of the NCAA Championships. They will compete in three events. Preliminaries get started at 10 a.m. Eastern while finals will be contested beginning at 6 p.m. Eastern.
