Three Blugolds place at Don Parker Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team hosted the Don Parker Open on Saturday, with three Blugolds earning a spot on the podium.

Results

Mason Hawkins (Jr. – Farmington, MN) led Eau Claire with a second place finish in the Gold 197 bracket. After a first round bye, Hawkins defeated Adam Gusky of UW-La Crosse by decision, 6-5. In the quarterfinal, Hawkins tallied a major decision win (11-2) over Chase Dress (unattached) and in the semifinal, earned a sudden victory -1 over Minnesota's Rowan Morgan (SV-1 3-1). In the championship bout, he fell to Iowa's Zach Glazier by major decision, 20-7.

Tristan Massie (Fr. – Hillsdale, WI/Barron) took seventh place in the Gold 157 bracket after going 3-2 on the day. Massie defeated Nick Pretto of UW-Stevens Point in the opening round with a 10-4 decision and recorded a 11-4 decision over Spencer Miller of St. Cloud State. Massie fell in the next two rounds in bouts against Minnesota's Cael Carlson and Kevin Miecher, but would take seventh with a medical forfeit win in the seventh place match.

Alfred Daniel (Jr. - Stewartville, MN) was eighth in the 157 Gold. The junior won by major decision over Noah Parrish of Rochester Community & Technical College, 13-4. He tallied another major decision win in his second bout, this time over Tyler Hines (UMD Club Wrestling), 14-5. Daniel would fall in his three remaining matches due to medical forfeit.

Next up for the Blugolds is the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, February 14th, hosted by UW-La Crosse.
