WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team fell to No. 5 UW-Whitewater on Tuesday night, 27-12.
The meet started at 157 pounds where the Warhawks got on the scoreboard first, but the Blugolds answered with a win at 165 as Chase Schmidt (Jr. – Rice Lake) defeated Ryder Sigler with a 6-1 decision. Grant Balconi (Sr. – Muskego) would also pick up a victory for UW-Eau Claire, defeating Alex Oruna at 184 by fall, 2:34.
The win would bring the dual to a 9-9 tie through four matches, however, the Warhawks would claim wins in five of the final six bouts to take the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) win.
Jack Marley (So. – Trempealeau/GET) would tally the final Blugold victory, recording a 9-5 decision over Josiah Lynden at 133 pounds.
The Blugolds will be back on the road Friday as they travel to Collegeville, Minn. to take on Saint John's University at 7 p.m.
