COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team picked up their 11th dual win of the season on Friday night, defeating Saint John's University, 38-9.
After a forfeit win at 125 for the Blugolds and a Saint John's pin at 133, the Blugolds would tally seven straight victories, including three pins.
Tyler Demo (So. – Loves Park, IL/Belvidere North) recorded a pin at 141, taking down Anthony Hennen (2:01) while Jake Drexler (So. - Stratford) followed with a fall of his own at 149 (1:29) over Graham Evavold. The final Eau Claire pin came at 184 pounds where Grant Balconi pinned Dan Gehrz at 4:00.
Tristan Massie (Fr. – Hillsdale, WI/Barron) tallied a 13-6 decision at 157 while Chase Schmidt (Jr. – Rice Lake) earned a tech fall win (15-0) at 165. Evan Lawrence (Jr. - Hugo, MN/Mahtomedi) also recorded a decision, defeating Jacob Scherber 15-9. In addition, James Huntley (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/Stillwater) recorded a 10-4 decision at 197.
The Blugolds (11-4, 2-3 WIAC) will be back in action Saturday as they compete in the North Country Open, hosted by Saint John's.
