Women's Basketball Comes up Short against Connecticut College

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team battled all game long and even had a chance at the end to pull off its third win of the season.

Box Score

But Kristin Sahr's (Jr.-Stillwater, Minn.) 3-point basket that would have tied the game was off the mark with five seconds to go, and the Blugolds fell to Connecticut College 64-59 in their final game of the Land of Magic Classic at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Eau Claire went into the halftime locker room sporting a one point lead, but the Camels quickly erased that lead to start the second half, using a 14-2 run in the first five minutes to get up by seven points, their largest lead of the game.

The Blugolds tied the game with 3:50 to go, the eighth tie of the game, on a Sahr layup and even took the lead on a pair of Teenie Lichtfuss (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) free throws with 3:11 left, but the Camels ultimately prevailed in the contest.

Eau Claire struggled shooting the ball, shooting only 34.9 percent from the floor and only made one of 11 3-point shots. However, the Blugolds were 14-of-18 from the free-throw line and only committed 11 turnovers.

Individually, Courtney Lewis (Jr.-Prairie du Chien, Wis.) led Eau Claire with 15 points and six rebounds. Lichtfuss chipped in 14 points with six rebounds of her own. Madison Johnson (So.-Osceola, Wis.) also scored in double figures, notching 11 points in just 16 minutes.

Eau Claire falls to 2-10 on the season while Connecticut College improves to 6-5.

The Blugolds will return back to Wisconsin to take on UW-Stout on the road Saturday as part of the only men's and women's road doubleheader of the season. The women will tip-off at 3 p.m. at Johnson Fieldhouse.
