Women's Basketball No Match for Ranked Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Despite leading the first four minutes, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell behind and never recovered in an 85-45 loss at 22nd-ranked UW-Stevens Point in Berg Gymnasium tonight.

The Blugolds kept the game close for the first 13 minutes but the Pointers used a 13-0 run to get up 39-23 late in the opening half and never looked back. Stevens Point held a 43-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Pointers steadily increased their lead, outscoring the Blugolds 42-18 in the half to win by 40.

Scoring nine points each to lead the Blugolds were Teenie Lichtfuss (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes), Courtney Lewis (Jr.-Prairie du Chien, Wis.) and Carly Chell (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn.). Lewis also led the team with six rebounds.

The Blugolds fall to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC while Stevens Point improves to 5-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Saturday the Blugolds will be home for the first time since Nov. 21. They will host UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. for Parents Night in Zorn Arena.
