Women's Basketball Breezes Past Cornell College

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team had little trouble beating Cornell College (Iowa), picking up a 63-35 victory at Zorn Arena today.

The Blugolds trailed only once in the game, in the opening minute as Cornell hit a three-pointer to take a 3-2 lead. Following the three-pointer, the Blugolds went on a 13-0 run to build a 12-point lead (15-3).

Eau Claire closed the first half outscoring the Rams 16-9 to take a 19-point lead (31-12) into halftime.

In the second half, the Blugolds opened with a 10-0 run to get up by 29 points. They held Cornell scoreless over the first four and a half minutes. The Blugolds never let Cornell get back into the game and led by as much as 32 points with less than three minutes to play.

The Blugolds finished the day outshooting the Rams 44.1 percent (26-for-59) to 24.5 percent (12-for-49). They also outrebounded the Rams 39 to 32 and forced 20 turnovers while Eau Claire had 15.

Callie Halama (Sr.-Independence, Wis.) led the Blugolds with 12 points while Ellen Plendl (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) led in rebounding with seven. Halama played just 21 minutes while Plendl was in the game for 14. All 20 Blugolds saw time in today's game.

Eau Claire improves to 4-2 on the season while Cornell drops to 2-2. This was the first meeting between the teams all-time.

The Blugolds will be back in action at UW-La Crosse on Saturday, Dec. 3. Action is set to get underway at 3 p.m.
