Track & Field Wrap Up WIAC Championships

WHITEWATER, Wis (blugolds.com) - The University if Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams showed out at the WIAC Conference Championships this past weekend hosted at UW-Whitewater. The women's team placed second overall with 156 points and men placed fourth with 88.5 points.

Senior thrower Yakob Ekoue left his mark on the conference as he was crowned the winner in both the Discus Throw (55.63m) and Shot Put (17.42m). The women's throwers put on a clinic scoring 53 of the teams points. Catie Fobbe led the charge placing second in the Discus (44.78m) and Shot Put (14.45m). Evelyn Walker added six points by placing third in the Discus with a throw of 43.20m.

Stefan Klechefski proved himself to be the fastest man in the WIAC by winning the 100m dash with a time of 10.50s. The women's sprinters got in on the fun by placing second in the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.58. The relay consisted of sprinters Best, Kallenbach, Johnson, Iverson.

Finally back from injury, senior Mitch Stegeman won the competitive Decathlon by scoring 6932 points over the two day event. This score places Stegeman as the highest ranked decathlete in the nation. Max Foland and Tommy Mestnik placed fourth and fifth in the same event with scores of 6532 and 6484 points. In the Heptathlon, Emilee Booker found herself atop the podium as she scored 4636 points.
