Thorson Wins 5,000-Meter At Gina Relays

HILLSDALE, Mich. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's distance runner Joshua Thorson (Jr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) won the 5,000-meter run at the Gina Relays hosted by Hillsdale College at Ken Herrick Track.

In a field featuring several NCAA Division I and II runners, Thorson won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:12.90 which was nearly four seconds faster than his next closest competitor.  His time currently ranks second nationally in NCAA Division III.

Darin Lau (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel) finished seventh in the 5,000-meter run posting a time of 14:33.13.  Lau's time currently ranks as the 13th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season.

Ryan Mugan (Jr.-Howards Grove, WI) finished 11th in the 10,000-meter run clocking in at 30:30.08.  Christian Leitner (Jr.-Red Wing, MN) placed 19th in the same event with a time of 30:53.18.  Their times rank seventh and 21st in NCAA Division III, respectively.

The Blugolds will compete in the St. Mary's (MN) Open tomorrow before competing at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 1-2 at UW-La Crosse.
