Men's Hockey Takes Down Ranked Opponent in Overtime

ADRIAN, Mich. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team prevailed 4-3 in overtime at seventh-ranked Adrian College's own Thanksgiving Tournament at Arrington Ice Arena tonight.

The Blugolds (4-4) led 3-1 with just over eight minutes to go in the third period but two quick goals by Adrian (5-2) sent the game into overtime.

Tyler Romasco (Jr.-Perry, Ohio) got the scoring going at 15:56 in the first period on a power-play with assists from Tyler Jundt (Jr.-Williston, N.D.) and Andrew Wilcox (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Century). Three minutes later Adrian tied it up at 1-1.

The Blugolds' again found the back of the net at 9:06 in the second period with Robbie Anderegg (Fr.-Urbandale, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) scoring his first collegiate goal. Andrew McCabe (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Jared Williams (Fr.-West Chicago, Ill./Bartlett) assisted on the goal.

In the third period at 11:57 Ross Janecyk (Sr.-Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central)gave the Blugolds a two-goal lead after assists from Isaiah Bennis (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Eric OHearn (So.-Traverse City, Mich./Central) but Adrian goals at 12:51 and 13:14 tied the game up at 3-3.

In the overtime period, Weston scored an even-strength goal to lift the Blugolds past the Bulldogs 4-3. John Kearns (Sr.-Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) and Williams assisted on the game-winner.

The Blugolds finished outshooting the Bulldogs 32-28 and Brandon Stephenson (So.-Saline, Mich.) stopped 25 shots as he played the entire game guarding the Blugolds' net.

Tonight's meeting was the first ever between the two teams. Adrian came into today's contest on a five-game winning streak.

The Blugolds will be back in action tomorrow with a second game at Adrian's Thanksgiving Tournament. They will face SUNY-Geneseo at 3 p.m. (Eastern). The meeting will be the first ever between the two teams.
