Five Blugolds Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - Several UW- Eau Claire athletes named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week honors this morning as announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations, Matt Stanek. These Athletes include: women's cross-country runner  Erika Owens, football kicker Austin Kolden, swimmers Collin Miller and Samantha Senczyszyn, and diver Dylan Glumac. 

Women's cross-country runner Erika Owens ran to a first-place finish at the Lowes Creek 5K on Oct. 21, leading the Blugolds to the team win over UW-Stout. She won by 26 seconds, completing the hilly course in a time of 19:37.

In a 20-14 victory over UW-La Crosse on Oct. 22, Austin Kolden was two for two on field goal attempts. He put the Blugolds up 10-7 heading into halftime with a 44-yard field goal, and hit again early in the fourth quarter from 33 yards giving the Blugolds a 20-14 advantage. In the victory, Kolden’s kick-offs helped keep the Eagles’ field position in check - on five kick-offs he averaged 59.4 yards per attempt.

Men's swimmer Collin Miller led UW-Eau Claire at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular, winning two events. He won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.89 and the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.71. Miller added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 47.56.

Diver Dylan Glumac won the one-meter diving competition at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. He finished with a score of 248.05, 12 points higher than the second-place finisher. Glumac also finished fourth on the three-meter board with a score of 218.65.

Sam Senczyszyn led the Blugolds for the second straight meet, winning all three of her individual events at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with time of 1:04.62 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.94, beating the second-place finisher by nearly four seconds in both events. Senczyszyn also took first in the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2:12.10.

 Women's cross-country will compete Oct. 29 at the WIAC Championships, football takes on UW-Whitewater at home on Oct. 29, and the men's and women's swim and dive teams compete at home on Oct. 28 against Luther College (IA).
