Blugolds earn All-WIAC football honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team were named to the 2016 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team, in a vote by the league coaches.

Matt Knapp (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial), earned Second Team honors on offense and on special teams while teammates JT DenHartog (So. – Hopkins, MN) and Bo Casper (Sr. – Freedom, WI) earned Honorable Mention honors.

Knapp played a key role for the Blugold offense, both as a wide receiver and return specialist. The senior led Eau Claire with 37 receptions for 642 yard and eight touchdowns. Knapp also had 37 kick returns for 813 yards and 11 punt returns for 173 yards. In addition, he also rushed for 108 yards on 26 carries. Knapp's 1,736 all-purpose yards were a team-high as were his 48 points. In the WIAC, Knapp led the conference in all-purpose yards (1,642), was third in kick return average (19.4).

DenHartog passed for 1,479 yards this season on 121 completions in 224 attempts (54 percent). The sophomore signal-caller recorded 12 touchdowns through the air and ran for an additional four. DenHartog rushed for 265 yards on season and was second on the team in scoring (24).  

Casper led the Blugold defense with 52 total tackles, including 2.5 for a loss. The senior defensive back broke up 10 passes on the season.

Also earning recognition was David Menk (Sr. – Manitowoc, WI/Lutheran), who was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.
