Martinek and Reineck Recieve WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) -

UW-Eau Claire basketball player, Jack Martinek (Jr., New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) and women’s track and field athlete Jessie Reineck (Sr., Greenville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), were both recognized as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, as announced by WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek earlier today.

Martinek, a guard for the Blugolds, averaged 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in both games this week, while shooting 58% from the floor, 71% from behind the arc and 83% from the free- throw line. He had a double-double with a game-high 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Blugolds’ 64-57 win over UW-La Crosse on Feb 17. Martinek was 7-for-13 (54%) from the floor, 1-of-3 (33%) from behind the arc, and a 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. In a 59-53 win over UW-Whitewater, Martinek was 7-of-11 (63%) from the floor, 4-of-4 from behind the arc and 3-of-4 (75%) from the charity stripe. He took over the second half of the UW-Whitewater game, scoring 15 of his game-high 21 points. With the win against the Warhawks, the Blugolds secured the No. 3 seed in the WIAC tournament.
Reineck had a double win at the UW-Stevens Point Big Dawg Invitational on Feb. 20. She placed first in the 400-meter dash (57.39), which is a lifetime best and currently ranks her at seventh in the nation; and the 200-meter dash (25.27), which is another lifetime best and currently ranks her third in the nation.
The men’s basketball team takes on UW-Stevens point in the first round of the WIAC tournament Wednesday night while the women’s track team begins the WIAC conference meet this Saturday in Oshkosh.
