Men's Basketball Shuts Down Wartburg

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team notched another victory Saturday night after defeating Wartburg College (Iowa) 73-58 at Zorn Arena.

In the first half, the Knights came out and held a 4-2 lead early. The Blugolds would respond by going on a 5-0 run to take the lead. The Knights pulled it within two of the Blugolds to make it 11-9, but Eau Claire was not going to make it easy. Eau Claire would go on to outscore the Knights 17-8 in the first. 

In the second, the Blugolds cruised to the  73-58 victory easily, maintaining the lead the entire time. 

It was all George Diekelman (So. Stevens Point, WI/ SPASH) for Eau Claire, who went off for a huge game scoring 33 points (12-19 FG 5-7 3PT) while adding 4 rebounds. Andrew Duxbury   (Jr.-Stillwater, Minnesota/Stillwater Area) Deondre Lucas  (Jr.-Norcross, GA/ Meadowcreek) and Jack Martinek  (Jr. New Brighton, MN/ Irondale) all added to the cause by chipping in 14, 10, and 10 respectively. 

The Blugolds were able to capitalize on their three point shooting nine of 21 while holding Wartburg to three of 16. 

With the win, Eau Claire moves to 5-3 on the season. The Blugolds will be back in action Wednesday, December 9th, where they will take on Viterbo University (Wis.) tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
