Blugolds Sweep Pointers For Fourth WIAC Win

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team was back to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play as they traveled to UW-Stevens Point for a conference dual. After sweeping the doubles competition, UW-Eau Claire dominated the singles matches and earned the 9-0 victory.

Results

Clare Palen (So. – Rochester, MN/Lourdes) and Samantha Fuchs (Fr. – DeForest, WI) took home the win at No. 1 doubles defeating Barbara Covek (UWSP) and Jenna Koepp (UWSP), 8-5. Palen and Fuchs went on to take victories at the top singles spots. Palen overcame Covek (UWSP) 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, and Fuchs ousted Faith Leithold (UWSP) at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0.

Alexa Brooks (Sr. – Beaver Dam, WI) and Morgan Nelson (So. – Beaver Dam, WI) also took home wins in doubles and singles play. The duo defeated Leithold (UWSP) and Kaitlyn Hess (UWSP) at No. 2 doubles 8-2. In singles, Brooks won against Koepp (UWSP) 6-4, 6-3 and Nelson won in a three-set tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5.

The Blugolds will look to continue their success against WIAC opponents on Saturday, October 16th as they travel to UW-Oshkosh for an afternoon dual at 12:00 PM.
