EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team was back in action on Sunday with another home contest. With Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) UW-La Crosse in town, the Blugolds took down the Eagles 6-3 with dominating doubles play and key wins from the singles' matches.
Elaine Franta (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN) and Lindsey Henderson (Sr. – Prior Lake, MN) led things off with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. UWEC would take wins in No. 2 and 3 doubles for a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
That lead helped push Eau Claire to the win after the squads split the six singles matches with three wins each. Henderson continued her winning ways with a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 comeback win at No. 3 singles. Samantha Fuchs (Fr. – DeForest, WI) battled her way to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles, and Morgan Nelson (So. – Beaver Dam, WI) defeated Susi Hu (UWL) at No. 6 singles giving UWEC the 6-3 triumph.
As a team, UW-Eau Claire now 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in WIAC play. They currently sit in 4th place in the conference standings.
The Blugolds will continue WIAC play on Friday, October 15th when they head to UW-Stevens Point. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
