EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Athletics Director Dan Schumacher has announced the hiring of Joan Bachmeier as the head coach for the women's tennis program.

Bachmeier, a 1985 UW-Eau Claire alumna, was inducted into the Blugold Hall of Fame in 1990. A three-sport student-athlete, she was a conference champion and team MVP for women's tennis, along with competing on the women's basketball am and softball teams. In 1990, she was inducted into the Blugold Hall of Fame.

Following graduation, Bachmeier went on to coach girls and boys tennis and girls basketball at the high school level while teaching in the Eau Claire Area School District. She is now retired after 34 years of service. The Eau Claire native also served as a tennis pro at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club  and continues to compete on the tennis court, playing in local tournaments.

The Blugolds will kick off the spring season February 29 as they host St. Norbert College and Edgewood College at the John and Fay Menard Tennis Center. Follow the Blugolds all season long on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app from your mobile device.
