Women's Hockey downs River Falls, improves to 6-0-1

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team took on UW-River Falls on the road on Wednesday night, handing the Falcons their first loss of the season while the Blugolds improve to 6-0-1.

The Falcons struck first with a goal in the first period to hold a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission. Eau Claire would tie things up midway through the second thanks to a Taylar Meier (Fr. – River Falls, WI/Columbine (CO)) goal off assists from Emily Hart (So. – Red Wing, MN) and Hattie Verstegen (Fr. – Oshkosh, WI/North).  

The Blugolds would take the lead less than a minute into the third with an unassisted Emma Peterson (Sr. – Superior, WI) goal. Verstegen would give Eau Claire some insurance with another at 9:34 in the third thanks to a Bree Osborne (Sr. – West St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall) assist, securing the 3-1 victory.

Stephanie Martin earned the win in goal while recording 20 saves and improves to 3-0-1 on the season.

The two squads will return to the ice on Friday, this time at Hobbs Ice Arena with a 7 p.m. start. Follow all the action on Blugold Game Day.
