STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team traveled to UW-Stevens Point for their second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) game of their shortened season. Despite a close opening 40 minutes, the Blugolds would capitalize twice in the third for a 2-0 win.

Box Score

After a tie in their first meeting, the Blugolds and Pointers kept the intensity consistent in their second game. The first two periods of play would see a scoreless scoreboard, even after both teams had plenty of scoring chances. It wasn't until the final frame that the tie would be broken.

Off a faceoff in the offensive zone and a shot from the point, Emma Peterson (Sr. – Superior, WI) would redirect the puck into the back of the net for the game's first goal. Assists would be given to Ella Ierino (Jr. – Duluth, MN) and Samantha Scherling (So. – Roger, MN).

Just moments after, Ierino would add a goal of her own to extend the lead to two. Scherling would get the primary assist on the goal coming from the blue line. Both players would end the game with two points each.

Kylah Krause (So. - Belleville, IL/East) would stop 20 of the 20 shots she faced for her first win and shutout of the season. It is her second shutout as a Bluolgold and holds a record of 1-0-0 going into the weekend.

The Blugolds will have an extended break before taking the ice again on Wednesday, February 17th when they take on Northland College. The contest will be held in Ashland, WI and is scheduled to begin at 7PM.
