Men’s Cross Country team places second at UWEC City Wells 5K Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – It was another successful day for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team. The Blugolds competed at their own City Wells 5K Invitational last Friday. UW-Stout won the meet scoring 24 points to UW-Eau Claire's 31 points.

Adam McMonagle (Fr. – Eagan, MN/Eagan) led the Blugolds, finishing in 2nd place with a time of 16:23. McMonagle said his race went well.

"I felt like I ran a good first mile and I was able to close and catch three Stout guys in the last 400m. Overall I felt like it was a solid day for me," McMonagle said.

Following McMonagle was Braxton Doucette (Fr. – Madison, WI/Madison La Follette) who finished 5th with a time of 16:27. Luke Waschbusch (Jr. – Verona,WI/Verona) was the third finisher for the men's team and placed 7th with a time of 16:38.

Clay Quiring (So. – Webster, MN/Northfield High School) followed Waschbusch, placing 8th with a time of 16:46. Rounding out the top five for the Blugolds was Dan Lau (Fr. – Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel) who placed 9th with a time of 16:49.

Andrew Kempf (So. – Crystal, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong) was the 6th finisher for the team and placed 11th with a time of 16:53. Braden Benson (Fr. – Rogers, MN/Buffalo) completed the top 7 for the men's cross country team, placing 12th with a time of 16:55.

Head Coach Dan Schwamberger was happy with the results of the day, and said he was pleased and impressed with the way the team competed.

 "(The race) had me excited to see what's possible in the upcoming weeks," Schwamberger said.

The men's cross country team will be racing again this upcoming weekend, Saturday, October 27th, at the WIAC Conference Meet. The Blugolds will host conference at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, WI.
