Men's Track & Field Closes First Day of Championships in Sixth

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's track & field team placed sixth of nine teams after the first day of the two-day Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships.

The Blugolds tallied 21.50 points after seven scored events. UW-La Crosse leads the point standings with 82 points. UW-Oshkosh placed second with a total of 57 points.

Jeremy Kieser (So.-Verona, Wis.) led the Blugolds with his second place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He completed the event in just 9:21.85 while teammate Max Renner (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./East) crossed the line eighth.

The Blugolds also nailed a top-five finish in the 4x800-meter relay. Jake Zander (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell)Matt Scott (Fr.-Kiel, Wis.)Bryan Krause (Fr.-Webster, Wis.) and Eric Pronschinske (So.-Arcadia, Wis.) recorded a time of 7:46.57.

In the field, Tony Sigrist (Jr.-Byron, Minn.) picked up a third place finish in the hammer throw. He made a toss of 54.29 meters (178-01), a provisional qualification mark.

Eau Claire also earned a trio of eighth place finishes. Mike Kosiak (So.-Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) placed eighth in the pole vault with an attempt of 4.52 meters (14-10.00) while Jon Gillespie (So.-Altoona, Wis.) picked up eighth in the long jump with an effort of 6.90 meters (22-07.75). Joe Lilek (Jr.-Tomahawk, Wis.) made the eighth-best toss in the javelin throw with an attempt of 47.54 meters (156-00).

Andrew Storsveen (Sr.-Winona, Minn.) laid the groundwork for a solid finish tomorrow with a score of 3,521 in the first five events of the decathlon. His score put him in second place at the halfway point.

The conference championships will conclude tomorrow. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
