Swim & Dive continues to break records on Day 2 of WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swim and dive team picked up where they left off at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships as the Blugolds collected more medals on day two.

A day after tying a school record, Ben Fisher (Jr.-Roselle, IL) took down the competition in the 100-yard breaststroke, turning in a time of 56.85 to secure first place and also earning an NCAA B cut. Teammate Thomas Hensen (Jr.-Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine) also turned in a top time in the 100-yard backstroke, winning with a time of 51.03 and securing an NCAA B cut. Dayton Miller (So.-Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy) won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:06.34.

An 18-year-old school record fell in the men's 200-yard medley relay, as the relay of Hensen, Fisher, Ryan Young (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/North) and Jack Kelly (So.-Medina, MN/Wayzata) were second with a time of 1:32.13.

The 800-yard free relay team of Caleb Odmark (Fr.-White Bear Lake, MN), Miller, Kelly andLogan Coert (So.-Cedarburg, WI) also did well for the Blugolds, placing second with a time of 6:58.52.

On the women's side, Samantha Senczyszyn (Fr.-Grafton, WI) continued her successful season with another win, claiming the title in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.91 and also setting the top time in the nation.  Jessica Short (So.-Grafton, WI) took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke, recording a time of 56.55 and hit the invite time from last season.

In addition, the women's 200-yard medley relay of Maddie Gray (Sr.-Roseville MN), Senczyszyn,Rachel Treadway (Sr.-Cottage Grove, MN/East Ridge) and Allie Hable (Sr.-Ankeny, IA) not only won the event, but also broke a school record and currently rank 10th in the nation with a time of 1:44.62. 

The 800-yard free relay team of Hannah Sisto (Fr.-Neenah, WI), Sidney Fairbrother (Sr.-Maple Plain, MN/Orono), Gray and Short also turned in a strong performance, taking second with a time of 7:48.28.

The Blugolds will compete in the final day of the championships on Saturday in Brown Deer.
