Green signs contract with ECHL's Norfolk Admirals

NORFOLK, VA (Blugolds.com) – Tyler Green (Sr. – Noblesville, IN) of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team has signed a contract with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League), an affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers.

Green, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year, ranked second in the conference with a 1.83 goals-against-average and 536 saves, while placing third with 10 victories. He owns a pair of shutouts – against Lawrence University (Wis.) on Nov. 27 and UW-Stout on Dec. 3. Green had 30-plus saves in 11 of 18 games, including a season-high 45 saves against UW-Stout on Jan. 28. He also received first team All-WIAC recognition in 2014.

In his career with the Blugolds, Green finished tied for most career shutouts (9), tied for second in goals against percentage (2.06) and fourth in save percentage (.933). He was also part of the 2012-13 NCAA III championship team and accumulated a 2.79 GAA and 0.912 SAV% in 73 regular season games in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). 

The Admirals are a mid-level professional hockey team that plays in the ECHL, a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The ECHL began in 1988-89 and has grown into a coast-to-coast league with 28 teams in 21 states and one Canadian province for its 28th season in 2015-16. There have been 592 players who have started their career in the ECHL that have gone on to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) including 23 who have made their NHL debuts in the 2015-16 season. The ECHL had affiliations with 25 of the 30 NHL teams.
