Five Players Receive All-WIAC Football Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Five members of the UW-Eau Claire football team have been recognized by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), it was announced today by WIAC Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Offensive tackle Isiah Cage (Jr.-Chicago, IL/Percy L. Julian) earned second team honors for the second consecutive season.  Cage played in all 10 games this season for the Blugolds.

Defensive end Roger Steen (Sr.-Luck, WI) received second team honors for the first time in his career.  Playing in 10 games, Steen ranked 45th in the WIAC with 43 total tackles, 35 being solo.  Steen tallied six tackles for loss, two sacks and one blocked kick on the year.  Against UW-River Falls on October 25 Steen recorded a season-best eight tackles, all solo, including two tackles for loss.

Wide receiver Matthew Knapp (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) earned honorable mention offense accolades.  In 10 games Knapp caught 32 passes for 301 yards averaging 9.4 yards per reception.  Knapp caught two touchdowns and had a season-long reception of 36 yards.  Against UW-Stout on November 1 Knapp caught 11 passes for 125 yards including two touchdowns in a 20-17 Blugold victory.  Knapp was named WIAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

Outside linebacker Brandon Luedke (So.-Wausau, WI/East) received honorable mention defense recognition.  In eight games this season Luedke recorded 23 tackles, 16 of which were solo, to go along with two tackles for loss and two sacks.  Against UW-Whitewater on October 18 Luedke made five tackles, all solo, including one tackle for loss.

Running back Jon Van Geffen (Sr.-Shiocton, WI) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.  In his final game as a Blugold, Van Geffen rushed 175 yards on 35 carries including his first career touchdown.  The single-game rushing total was the fourth-best total by a WIAC running back this season.
