Place Named WIAC Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Abbey Place (Sr. - Naperville, IL/Central) has been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week, as was announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Place led the Blugold offense during the week as UW-Eau Claire split games against Bethel University (Minn.) and St. Catherine University (Minn.). She hit .611 over the four games – including 6-for-6 in the extra-inning win over St. Catherine – and came up clutch for UW-Eau Claire with a game-tying RBI in the seventh and knocked in the game-winning RBI in the ninth to defeat the Wildcats 12-11. The six hits set a school single-game record and matched a conference mark that was also accomplished by UW-Stevens Point's Laura Van Abel on March 9, 2007. Place posted an on-base percentage of .632 with a slugging percentage of .944 after finishing the week 11-for-18 with three doubles, a home run and six RBI.
