EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team opened the 2013-14 season by beating conference opponent UW-Stout 9-0 on the Ade Olson Outdoor Courts today.
In singles play, all six Blugolds combined to drop just eight total games. Colleen McCullough (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) and Renee Nelson (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) both went undefeated at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, as they won 6-0, 6-0.
With the Blugolds sweeping doubles play, Katie Gillman (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) and Maddie Johnson (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn./South) had the best finish as they won 8-1 in the No. 1 spot.
The Blugolds will be back in action next Saturday for two matches in Iowa. They will face Wartburg College (Iowa) at 9 a.m. and will follow with a contest against Lawrence University at noon.
