NORTHFIELD, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team was on the road Wednesday, for a nonconference matchup against the St. Olaf College Oles. After a fast start from the Blugolds, UW-Eau Claire never wavered in the 4-2 road win.
Starting things off early for UWEC was Emma Stange (Sr. – Andover, MN/Anoka) after her shot from outside the box popped up and over the St. Olaf goalkeeper for the game's first tally. The Eau Claire offensive play was strong and present with 11 shots on goal throughout the game. The Oles would tie things up at one apiece just three minutes later.
Later in the half, Stange would get tally her second of the game, this time with a shot going to the top corner to take back the Blugold lead. Stange's brace puts her at the top of the UWEC lineup for most goals scored this season.
The second half would see the same picture as the first with the UW-Eau Claire attack in full form.
Addding to that attack, Hannah Schaetzel (Sr. - Germantown, WI) finished a low cross from Megan Hansen (Jr. – Andover, MN/Anoka) into the bottom corner to extend the lead to 3-1. The physical play picked up in the final half as both teams accounted for 17 fouls in the contest.
In the 79th minute, Molly Henderson (Fr. – Duluth, MN/East) scored her first goal as a Blugold from the left side to seal the UWEC fifth win of the year.
Kennedy Boll (Fr. – Franklin, WI) started the first half and gets credit for the win. Boll stopped three of the four shots she faced, and Anna Sveiven picked up three saves off the four shots on goal by St. Olaf in the second half. Boll is now 3-0-1 on the season.
The Blugolds will take the weekend off and head back on the road next Wednesday, September 29th when they travel to Decorah, IA. UWEC will faceoff against the Luther College Norse at 7 PM.
