MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Sarah Bingea, UW-Oshkosh's Megan Wenig and UW-Superior's Connie Urmanski have been selected recipients of the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Award.

Bingea, a senior from Delano, Minn., carries a 3.94 grade point average and is majoring in elementary education with a minor in general science. She was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and been recognized on UW-Eau Claire's Dean's List numerous semesters.
Bingea earned All-WIAC First Team recognition this season after receiving honorable mention honors a season ago. She is a two-year team captain and received her team's Rookie of the Year honor in 2010.
She is a member of UW-Eau Claire's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Relay For Life and Future Teacher's Club. Bingea has served as a volunteer for the Eau Claire Marathon, Feed My People Food Bank, Community Clean-up and Blugold Buddies.
A senior from Oshkosh, Wis. (West), Wenig is majoring in education with a minor in Spanish and sustains a 3.94 grade point average. She was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Six NCAA Division III Women's Basketball First Team, as selected by CoSIDA, and is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Wenig has earned Dean's List honors from UW-Oshkosh many semesters.
Wenig secured All-WIAC First Team accolades this year after earning honorable mention laurels in 2012. She served as a team captain this season and is one of three players in program history with over 1,000 career points and 255 career assists.
She is a member of the Golden Key, Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Alpha Pi Honor Societies, Student Wisconsin Education Association and UW-Oshkosh Sign Language Club. Wenig has served as a volunteer for Special Olympics and a panelist on campus for "Perceptions and Misperceptions of Student-Athletes at UW-Oshkosh."
Urmanski, a senior from Edgar, Wis., maintains a 3.98 grade point average and is majoring in elementary education with a minor in mathematics. She was selected to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Six NCAA Division III Women's Basketball First Team, as selected by CoSIDA, and is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. Urmanski has received academic scholarships from her institution and been recognized on UW-Superior's Dean's List numerous semesters.
A two-year team captain, she secured All-WIAC First Team honors this season after receiving honorable mention accolades in 2010 and 2012. She surpassed the 1,000-point career mark this year and holds the school career record for three-pointers made and free throw percentage, while ranking second in assists. Urmanski has been selected her team's Rookie of the Year, Defensive MVP and MVP.
She is a member of UW-Superior's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Athletes In Action.
Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were: UW-River Falls' Brittany Gregorich (Sr., Altoona, Wis.); UW-Stevens Point's Brooke Allen (Sr., Barneveld, Wis.); and UW-Stout's Kayla Windt (Sr., Pence, Wis./Hurley).
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she was Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) from October 1984 - September 1996. Kruckman was the women's athletics director at UW-Eau Claire from 1974-84, and one of the original representatives to the WWIAC when it formed in 1971.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
